Thanks for your replies to my questions about studying in St. Petersburg.

I should clarify one thing about the drug question: it was not that my
student is afraid of being dragged into a snake pit of drug use himself
(that can happen just as easily here) ;  his father had been informed that
the problem at St. Petersburg State was so bad it was affecting academic
life there.  Judging from your responses, he has been misinformed.
