The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Barnard College
announces an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Russian
literature.  We seek a promising scholar with a demonstrated commitment
to excellence in teaching, research, and service.  The preferred area of
specialization is twentieth-century prose.  Competence in another field
(comparative literature, film, a second Slavic language,
twentieth-century poetry, cultural studies) is a plus.  Native or
near-native proficiency in Russian and English are required.  The
successful candidate will be expected to teach in the First Year Seminar
Program and other extra-departmental programs. Applicants should hold
the Ph.D. by the date of appointment. Starting date is July 1, 2003. To
ensure full consideration, the applicant's CV, three letters of
recommendation, and sample publications and/or dissertation chapters,
