Did Humbert debauch Orthodoxy?

I would be interested to know if anyone out there is working to link
Nabokov’s HH to Cardinal Humbert of Silva Candida, one of Pope Leo’s three
legates who deposited the decree of excommunication on the alter of Hagia
Sophia in 1054.
I inquired about this at a Nabokov conference at Weslleyan a couple of
years ago and drew a blank, but the idea generated some interest.
