A Russian short story

I am trying to locate the name of a short story that was given to me a few
years ago. It was a 19th century short story about a cab driver whose son
had died of pneumonia. He attempted to talk with his passengers though the
night, but no one was interested in hearing his story or sharing his grief.
Is anyone out there familiar with the story and its author?
Thank you all very much
