Ukraine with definite article?

If one were to translate "Ukraina" into English, one would come up with
"March", as in the "Welsh marches", "Northern Marches", etc.  The March(es)
sound(s)  v. odd.

there was also a jingle from the 70's which (Glasgow) Rangers supporters may
remember.

"Transport Stein*
to the Argentine"

*referring to Jock Stein, the very successful Celtic manager, who went on to
manage Scotland's national team
