Problem Getting Manuscript through Customs

Dear List,
For those of you who took an interest in the plight of the author who is
spending the summer doing research in Russia, had proofs of his manuscript
sent to him there by Oxford UP, but then was unable to FedEx them back
without producing a multitude of forms it was essentially impossible to
procure, here is the happy ending:

The author walked into a Russian post office and mailed the manuscript
without incident. "They did not ask me a single question! Nor did they
require me to produce any documents or to fill in any forms. They just
mailed it that very
Monday in the evening [and] said that the delivery was going to take about
two weeks."

Amazingly, the manuscript reached his editor's desk exactly one week later.

All's well that ends well. A good lesson to those of us who tend to
overlook the simple solutions.

Cheers! Nora Favorov
