As a comparison reference for the portrayal of young women in Russian
literature of past centuries I highly recommend a 2000 publication by Dr
Olga Glagoleva, entitled "Dream and Reality of Russian Young Provincial
Ladies (1700-1850)". For a brief description please go to:
http://www.interlog.com/~moslon/olga/glagoleva.htm
and click on the first item under "Main publications".

Dr Glagoleva is a Resident Fellow of the Munk Centre for International
Studies at the University of Toronto. She is currently working on more
than one study of Russian provincial noblewomen and has extensive
experience in working with Russian archives.
