JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University
of North Carolina-Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track
assistant professorship in 19th-century Russian literature, effective
July 1 2005. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. by the time
of appointment, must show promise or significant achievement in
research and publication in 19th-century Russian literature, and must
demonstrate excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be
responsible for teaching a wide range of general and specialized
undergraduate and graduate courses in nineteenth-century Russian
literature and culture as well as upper-division Russian language
courses on an as-needed basis. Strong competency in teaching
19th-century Russian poetry is a must. Excellent (native or
near-native) knowledge of Russian and English is required.  Secondary
specialization in any aspect of Russian culture or in another Slavic
literature is desirable.  Applicants are requested to send a letter
detailing their research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, a
short writing sample (30 pages maximum), four confidential letters of
recommendation, and a self-addressed postcard for acknowledgement of
