publitsistika v. zhurnalistika

I would agree with your point of view. For me, publitsistika is rather
someone's thoughts on a subject (usually on a painful one); zhurnalistika
rather describes facts and events; it can contain elements of reflection
too, but not necessarily.

For the contemporary usage, you can google each word and, after looking at
the first dozen or so hits, figure out if there is a difference in the
contexts they usually appear in.
