Try searching the subject field (in WorldCat) for Athletes Soviet Union
Biography (also try Athletes Russia Biography). You can then limit to a
particular date range.  

Many of these books may be cataloged more specifically (like Figure
Skaters, or Track and Field, etc., rather than Athletes) so you may have
to also try some of those as keywords (in another search box). 

I would also recommend contacting your local Slavic Librarian. They will
be able to help you find what you need.
