Assistant Professor of Russian
Miami University, Oxford, Ohio

Ph.D. by time of appointment. Responsibilities include teaching courses in
translation in a Russian studies program, especially in visual culture
such as film and/or art, as well as all levels of Russian language. While
the field of specialization is open, we hope to make an appointment that
reflects the department's commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to
Russian culture. The successful candidate is expected to maintain an
active research program with scholarly publications. The successful
candidate will also have the opportunity to work closely with the
Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies, directed by
Professor Karen Dawisha. The Center, with its community of post-doctoral
fellows, its programs focused on the study of the politics, society, and
culture of the post-Soviet region, and its participation in both the
graduate and undergraduate teaching missions of the University, offers a
supportive professional arena for scholars specializing in Russian
studies. Candidates must have native or near-native ability in Russian and
English and demonstrated teaching excellence. We will begin screening
applications on 15 November 2005 and continue until the position is
filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted by telephone in late
November or early December.
