Dear Genevra:

The stress mark is familiar to students, so stick with it.  
The trouble with bold face, besides the mottled appearance 
it gives to the page, is that it confronts you with the 
problem, What is being stressed?  With _voda_, it's the 
whole second syllable.  With just one consonant, it's not a 
problem.  But with consonant clusters it gets more 
complicated.  With _sestra_, is the second syllable _-tra_ 
or _-stra_?  Stick with _sestr'a_.
