TODAY AT LUNCHTIME:
Volodymyr Kulyk, a senior research fellow at the National Academy of
Sciences of Ukraine (Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies) and
current visiting scholar at Stanford University,
will give a lunchtime talk titled
“Language Ideologies and the Media in Post-Soviet Ukraine”
Kulyk will address how the media has contributed to the prominence of
the Russian language in Ukrainian society and has presented this
prominence as normal, as he focuses on language ideologies (beliefs
about the nature, structure and use of language) in contemporary
Ukrainian media.
