Even prior to the war abroad (and during WWII Soviet soldiers were
buried wherever they died, so no coffins were involved), vernut'sja v
cinkovom grobu, or privezli v cinkovom grobu meant that the body was
in such a state that the coffin was not to be opened (i.e. so that
the relatives would not see the disfiguration).
