Dear Robert

On reading Binyons book I felt three things:

1. What a tremendous work!

2. I was flattered that in his final chapters he often refers to my PhD
thesis as a source.

3. I was annoyed that like so many Soviet Pushkinist he pretends to know
everything about everbodies motives, especially those of van Heeckeren and
dÁnthes.
I checked some of the sources,in the notes in the library of the Pushkinskiy
dom in 2005. The stated facts coould not be related to the mentioned
sources. When I tried to contact Binyon I found out that he had passed
away.

I will look Up my travel notes from may 2005 and hopefuly come back to you
on wednesday.

If You prefer, I can contact you directly.
