Oligarchs (was SEELANGS Digest)

A quick check on the Eastview database reveals the following, though it is necessary to bear in mind that coverage of the central press is fairly limited until the second half of the nineties.
There were two references in the first half of the nineties one in Krasnaya Zvezda to the 'party oligarchs' and one in Izvestiya in 1995 (September 9th)(these are the only papers covered in this period). This last one is closest to modern usage and refers to 'ekonomicheskie oligarkhi i magnaty'. It appears in a discussion of the electoral programme of the KPRF by the Izvestiya analytical centre. There are no references in 1996, but they increase steadily thereafter - 1997-56, 1998 -1996,1999 - 2818, 2000 - 5402.
