A Chekhov story

Dear all,

A friend has asked me this:

Have you come across a short story by Chekhov in which a doctor whose child
has just died is summoned by a man whose wife has just left him. It poses
the question whether such different kinds of suffering can be equated.¹

Does anyone know the title and approximate date?
