* Karel Capek's "Zivot a dilo skladatele Foltyna"
* an obvious choice, but Pushkin's "Mozart and Salieri", of course
* non-Slavic: Alejo Carpentier's "Concierto barroco" and "Los pasos 
perdidos" ("The Lost Steps"); Pascal Quignard's "Tous les matins du 
monde" ("All the World's Mornings")
