Except that in the St. Mark Russian example there is nothing  
particularly curious about it.  The question as posed in the Russian  
translation is:  TY li Khristos (this sense evident in the word  
order)? –  (meaning is it YOU who are Christ?); to which the  
appropriate answer must be with respect to which person, not with  
respect to existence.  Thus, not 'I AM', but 'I am' [it is I who  
am].  I.e., "ia".
