foxtrot in Soviet Culture

Dear Julie,

Nikolai Ognev's 1928 novel 'Iskhod Nikpetozha', the sequel to the 
better-known 'Diary of a Communist Schoolboy', has some good passages on 
the dangers inherent in dancing the foxtrot. In fact one of the scenes, 
where one boy teaches another the steps, reminds me of a similar scene in 
Valerii Todorovskii's comedy film 'Stiliagi' - although the latter is set a 
few decades later and the boys are learning a different dance.
