Why do Russians eat potatoes without the skin?

I wasn't judging. I just thought there might be some interesting cultural or
practical reason behind this practice, of which I was unaware. The storage
practices and age of the potatoes mentioned by Andrey Shcherbenok and Raisa
(offlist), for example, help explain this.

If we are so open minded why judge people for peeling or non-peeling
position.
Let them peel whatever they want for whatever reason.
Otherwise we would have to apply for grant to establish "peeling
police".
