Dear Patricia,
 
The following sport slogan is often used: 
 
Со щитом или на щите
 
This laconic phrase originated from Spartan war-tradition: when Spartan men went to war, their women would give them their shields and wish them luck by saying “Come home with your shield or upon it,” meaning that true Spartans could only return to Sparta either victorious (with their shield in hand) or dead (carried upon it).
