2011 ASEEES panel on "Leaving the War Aside: Representations of the Great Patriotic War in 1945-1953"

Dear colleagues,

I am putting together a panel for AEEES 2011 Convention entitled "Leaving the War Aside: Representations of the Great Patriotic War in 1945-1953." The panel examines how representations of the war in the last years of Stalinism changed in comparison to the wartime period. In particular, contributions are welcome that would explore how the language of the represenations from this period (themes, metaphors, symbols, images) evolved in historiography, literature, painting, theatre, and film, in what way the party-state's efforts at 'rebuilding the country' interfered into the creative process and channelled the more informal rememberance practices. It would be wonderful to have a paper that would examine material from a non-Russian Soviet republic.
