Writing in Russian in Powerpoint for Mac 2011

Dear SEELANGers: 

For some reason, PowerPoint (for Mac Office 2011) is not letting me type in Russian. The explanation box is empty - just a PowerPoint logo shows up. Has anyone else had this problem and, more importantly, solved it?
