I know that this very issue will be addressed in detail in a forthcoming publication: The Reception of Charles Dickens in Europe (Continuum). I have heard a paper given on the 'meeting' and its life in secondary criticism by the editor of the volume, Michael Hollington, and have asked him to contribute to this discussion on SEELANGS.
