Assistant Professor and Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian

Nineteenth-century Literature and Culture and Twentieth-Century Literature and Culture

Macalester College seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor and a Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian Studies, to begin September 2013. Candidates may apply for the visiting or the tenure-track position, or for both. Candidates wishing to be considered for both positions should indicate that in their cover letter. Ph.D. by time of appointment and native or near-native fluency in Russian and English preferred. The positions entail teaching five courses per year, two in Russian language and three in literature and/or culture that may include thematic courses, seminars in area of specialization, and courses with a strong interdisciplinary component. We are looking for dynamic, theoretically informed scholar-teachers committed to the study of Russian culture as an integral part of the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. Candidates can study the program’s innovative curriculum at the department website. We would also encourage candidates to consider collaboration with Macalester’s many interdisciplinary departments and concentrations, such as Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, International Studies, Critical Theory, and Urban Studies.

To apply, submit a letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and research plans, and have three letters of recommendation sent to http://www.academicjobsonline.org. Questions regarding the application should be directed to Dr. James von Geldern at vongeldern at macalester.edu. Applications will be considered beginning on October 15, 2012. Interviews will take place at the ASEEES Convention in New Orleans, November 15-18.
