I prefer Boris Zakhoder's "Chikhat' i Pikhat'" and his version of 
Carroll's "different branches of arithmetic-ambition, distraction, 
uglification, and derision”: "Pochitanie, Uvazhenie, Davlenie i 
Iskazhenie" (i.e., vychitanie, slozhenie, delenie i umnozhenie). And 
then there's his version of the Gryphon's explanation of why lessons 
were shorter every day: "A s nashimi uchiteliami inache ne 
poluchalos'... Tekuchii sostav: kazhdyi den' kto-nibud' propadal. 
Poetomu ikh i nazyvaiut propadavateli, kstati."
