For Cynthia:

I took my laptop to the field fairly often during fieldwork.  I liked
Shoebox because I could browse on any field, bringing up queries I'd
previously marked by speaker.  It's fast and easy to use for this task.  I
would type in the info my speaker gave me while at the very place in my
data where it was pertinent, then later go back and clean it up.  And of
course I had the tape recorder(s) going, too.
