Here, clearly, the name reflects width rather than shallowness.  I can't resist
mentioning here what I recollect that someone said in the Senate about William
Jennings Bryant: "The senator is like the great Platte River of his native
Nebraska, a mile wide at the mouth and about an inch deep."
