So, in other words, you think the name has another origin?  I for one have
never checked to see if it is an attested idiom in French.  I stopped at
the obvious.

Could it be a "dit name"?  I've always assumed that surnames like
Sanssouci were of that origin.  I've wondered about LaFlesche (la fleche),
too.
