Just as a possible note of interest: The only difference between the Biloxi words for taN 'town' and the oft suffixed version of nithani 'big' -thaN appears to be the aspiration after t in the case of 'big'.  I wonder if they would have actually said, taNthaN, 'big town' !  
 
(I don't think there's evidence of it in the texts, at least that I've seen so far.)
