Omaha Ponca Digital Dictionary images link

Mark,

Hey, that's pretty awesome! I tried doing something similar using your microfilm collection of JOD's Kanza stuff for an NEH grant Bob and I had back in 2005. But I got overwhelmed so quickly by the sheer quantity of slips, and, more importantly for me and my rather small webhosting package, the filesize of the slip images. I was thinking something along the lines of, "Let's see, that's around 1 MB per image, for, what...oh.... SEVERAL THOUSAND images..." But I see that you were able to reduce your image size to something far more manageable--looks to be on the order of 0.2 MB or so. That's way better than I ever got. Still I can imagine that it's quite a lot of work to scan in each page, crop it two or three times to get individual slips--or zoom way in with your scanner three times per page--indexing them all in a logical way, and then building the slip browser page. Looks like you've done a good job, though.

Keep up the good work,
-Justin
