1999, seeing the extent to which his Indian connections had affected his life,
and with especial interest in the way he reacted to having Kaw heritage. I
forget the author of the book I read, but said author stated (on what evidence I
have no idea) that CC had learned at least the rudiments of French and Kaw as a
child. I wonder if he recalled any as an adult. He seems to have
erased the Catholic part of his Indian past, as in later life we has (I
think) a Methodist.</FONT></DIV>
