In Memoriam: Dale E. Link

I don't know where else to post this (perhaps someone could cross-post to
ASLTEACH?), so here goes...

Dale Edward Link (MA Ling, U. of Utah, BA Ling BYU) recently lost his latest
in a long series of battles with cancer. Those of us who were his colleagues
knew him for his inexhaustible thirst of knowledge and unsinkably high
spirits. His students will doubtless remember his constancy (if he missed a
class, you could bet it was because he was in the hospital) and concern for
those who placed their educational trust in him. Several of his students have
moved into linguistics and will ensure that Dale's legacy continues. I will
remember him for his friendship. Those of us who believe in an afterlife would
like to think that he's still poking around trying to figure out the
intricacies of language. He is survived by his wife, children, and a community
that will feel his absence most keenly.

Thank you for your indulgence -- we will now return to our regularly scheduled
 topics.
