LECTURER IN DEAF STUDIES (0.6)

Based within the Department of Education Studies, this post is
fixed term for 3 years. Working in collaboration with the University
of Derby, you will be responsible for improving existing access to
Higher Education through the development of 'Year Zero' provision
specifically for deaf students. This project is the funded by the
HEFCE under the Improving Provision for Disabled Students
initiative.

You will develop further strategies on study skills provision, building
on the existing strengths of the project partners, to ensure that the
tranistion to HE for deaf students is accomplished smoothly.

Educated with a good honours degree or equivalent, and qualified
to a minimum of CACDP Stage 2 or equivalent, you will be
experienced at teaching or supporting students in a Further or
Higher Education setting and be knowledgeable of issues in the
education of deaf people.

Equipped with good communication and report-writing skills, you
will have functional skills in British Sign Language and be a
committed team member capable of working independently.

Salary is unlikely to exceed #23,184 pro rata.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT (0.5)

This 2-year fixed-term post is made possible by National Lottery
Charities Board funding. In collaboration with Deafway (formerly
Mary Cross Trust in Preston), the project will be evaluating access
for deaf clients receiving interpreting support within Deafway's
Residental Care Service. The project team will develop guidelines
aimed at enhancing the efficacy of this provision and preparing and
disseminating findings relating to 'good practice' within the sector.

Educated with a good honours degree (2:i or above) in a relevant
humanities or social science subject, you will also be qualified to
at least CACDP Stage 2 or equivalent and have experience of
working with and knowledge of the Deaf community and culture.

Functionally fluent in British Sign Language, you will also be an
effective team member, capable of working independently.
