Panel Session: The Pragmatics of Sign Languages

This panel is part of the 7th International Pragmatics Conference, organised
by the International Pragmatics Association (IPrA), to be held in Budapest,
Hungary, 9-14 July 2000.

Panel organiser: Norine Berenz, Dept of Linguistics, University of the
Witwatersrand.

The panel session on The Pragmatics of Sign Languages is intended to bring
findings in the area of the pragmatics of sign languages to the attention of
theorists and researchers working on the pragmatics of spoken languages.

The panel session on Sign Languages will be held in the parallel session of
the IPrA 2000 conference programme.  The final number of panel session units
on Sign Languages will be determined by the number of contributions accepted
for presentation.  The maximum number is 12 (for a total of three units).

Each panel session unit meets for 90 minutes, and comprises a set of four
15-minute contributions and 30 minutes of general discussion.  Written
versions of all panel contributions will be made available electronically to
the other contributors prior to the conference to facilitate discussion.

You are invited to submit your panel presentations to the panel organiser by
1 November 1999. Panel presentations will be subject to anonymous review.
