Eighth Conference on Laboratory Phonology: Varieties of Phonological
Competence
New Haven, CT, USA, 27-30 June, 2002
Yale University and Haskins Laboratories

LabPhon 8, "Varieties of Phonological Competence," will continue the
tradition of this biennial series of conferences by presenting research
showing the interrelationships of phonological theory and data collected
in the laboratory.

LabPhon 8 will expand on previous areas to include the phonology of
signed languages, issues in acquisition, and a focus on endangered
languages.

We invite submission of abstracts relating to the use of laboratory
examinations of speech or sign language to the construction of
phonological theories.

Abstracts must arrive at this address by 14 January, 2002. Receipt will
be acknowledged by return email.

Abstracts should be submitted as the main body of your e-mail message or
as a PDF attachment. Faxed abstracts will not be accepted.

Abstracts may contain up to 800 words (including references, examples,
etc.). Abstracts in the main text body should contain ASCII text only;
for phonetic symbols, please use the SAMPA symbols described at
http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/home.htm.

Abstracts should be anonymous. PDF files should not list the authors,
but the accompanying message should. At the bottom of your message, list
your name, mailing address, email address, affiliation, and preference
for poster or oral presentation. Authors will be notified as to whether
their abstract has been accepted for oral or poster presentation, and
whether the paper will be considered for publication.

Authors will be required to submit draft papers by April 28, 2002, and
to bring nearly final versions of their papers (to be sent out for
review) to the conference. The deadline for absolutely final versions
(after the review process) will be December 1, 2002.
