CENTRE FOR DEAF STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL

CAN YOU HELP BRISTOL TO MEET THESE CHALLENGES?

We expect to be offering posts in the near future. Read on for more
information

The Centre for Deaf Studies at the University of Bristol has 25
research, teaching and administrative staff. There are approximately
70 students in both research and taught courses.

The Centre provides an academic focus for both traditional and
innovative work in Deaf Studies through training, research and
practical implementation intended to benefit Deaf communities and
those who have contact with them.

The Centre offers a full time BSc in Deaf Studies, and the world's
only MSc in Deaf Studies that can be taken full time, part-time, or
by individual modules.

We will require:

1. Lecturer in Sign language Interpreting

The main teaching responsibility will be in the undergraduate
programme and will focus on units in Simultaneous and Consecutive
Interpreting and also Processes & Practice of Sign Language
Interpreting. These are established courses and materials and
curricula are in use.

We have also had a demand for the optional Interpreting units on our
M.Sc. programme, both from those wishing to take the full M.Sc. and
those who wish to register as occasional students.

2. Lecturer in Deaf Studies

The main teaching responsibility will be in the undergraduate
programme (BSc) and will focus on general units such as Introduction
to the Linguistics of Sign Languages, BSL in its Social Context, and
BSL Literature and Performance. These are established courses and
materials and curricula are in use.

In addition, the two post-holders will each have a role in research
in the Centre and contribute to ongoing research projects.
