Research Intern (Maternity leave replacement)

GRADE AND SALARY RANGE:
This post is offered at grade 6 point 21 (£21,050 + LWA £2572) depending on
qualifications and experience. Available immediately until April 2008 with the
possibility of part-time extension following the return of post-holder.
Consideration will be given to a part-time appointment or secondment from
another post. There is also flexibility about the start date.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Deafness, Cognition and Language Project (DCAL) is an ESRC funded
multi-stranded research programme exploring how people born deaf acquire and
use language, and how this relates to their thought processes. The Centre
comprises both Deaf and hearing members of staff.
A well organised person interested in developing skills and knowledge of sign
language related research is required. You will primarily contribute to
research on signing in Usher syndrome and a study of how signs are mentally
represented by signers. There will also be opportunities to contribute to other
strands of DCAL’s research. In addition to excellent team working, IT skills,
and relevant experience, excellent communication skills with both hearing and
deaf people are essential.
