Workshop on African sign languages - call for papers

Dear all, 

We're very happy to announce that there will be a workshop on African
Sign Languages, which will be held within the frame of WOCAL 6 on August
18th. A separate registration for the workshop only is not possible.

Organising Committee of the Workshop on African Sign Languages

Victoria Nyst (University of Leiden), Shane Gilchrist (University of
Amsterdam), Rezenet Moges (CSU Long Beach), Sam Lutalo (University of
Central Lancashire), Pamela Perniss (University College London), Sophie
Dalle-Nazebi (University of Toulouse 2), Eyasu Tamene (University of
Addis Ababa) and Nobutaka Kamei (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies).

Call for Papers

The deadline for submission is December 20th, 2008. 

Papers are invited on the following topics, although papers on other
topics will be considered as well. 

Imported and local sign languages in Africa
Documentation and sign language corpora 
Signed language lexicography in Africa 
Signed language teaching in Africa 
Signed Language Planning and Standardization 

An academic committee will help to evaluate the abstracts. One paper per
scholar will be accepted, as long as it meets academic standards.
Participants are encouraged to devote special attention to the
methodologies used in their research. 

Registration

Registration for the workshop will run through the WOCAL 6
infrastructure. Information on registration, invitation letters,
accommodation, the conference location and possibilities for financial
support can be found on the WOCAL 6 website

The WOCAL6 congress language is English. Papers can be presented in
French as well, but abstracts of all papers must be submitted in
English. Abstracts (approximately 200-300 words) are to be sent,
preferably as PC word document (with an additional pdf copy, if special
fonts are used), to WOCAL6 at uni-koeln.de. 

All abstracts relating to the workshop will be forwarded to the workshop
organizers for evaluation. Please indicate your interest in being part
of the African Sign Language workshop.
