2 Deaf Studies Tenure Track Professor Positions Open., Screening begins Feb 15, 2016:


The American Sign Language & Deaf Studies Program at California State University, Sacramento invites applications for a tenure track position in American Sign Language & Deaf Studies at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 2016.


An earned Ph.D. in a field related to American Sign Language & Deaf Studies is required (Anthropology, Communication, Second Language Acquisition, Socio-linguistics, Sociology, Gender & Equity Studies, Ethnic Studies or similar field). All degree requirements must be completed by August 2016.  Candidates should also possess: a) a strong background in theories and research methods pertaining to Deaf Studies, Deaf Culture & American Sign Language; b) professional and/or research experience with Deaf people from diverse backgrounds.  Preferred qualifications include a clearly defined program of research and teaching, professional or research experience in the field of Deaf Studies, demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate or graduate level classes and strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in day and/or evening classes; maintaining a productive program of research and scholarly activities; student advising; university and community service.


Salary is dependent upon qualifications and professional experience.


Submit statements of teaching interests & teaching philosophy and research program, current curriculum vita, unofficial transcripts of all college work (official copies required if invited for interview), recent data on teaching effectiveness (if available), and a five to ten-minute video statement in ASL regarding how you see yourself contributing to the Sacramento State Deaf Studies Program (provide a link via Resume to an unlisted YouTube or similar video sharing service). Candidates must also send three (3) recent letters of reference by regular mail (please provide names and phone numbers). Letters of Recommendation can be mailed to: Dr. Ana Garcia-Nevarez, Chair of Undergraduate Studies in the College of Education.
