Dear all,
The SL-team in Leiden University is delighted to premiere a two-weeks (1-14 August 2019 ) summer school on sign language issues and practical research skills to be held at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The school is intended for African Deaf students following or having completed a program at a recognised tertiary institution, including sign language linguistics and special education. 

Linguistic Department-University of Ghana hosts the school and funded by the Leiden African Studies Assembly (LeidenASA).

Topics to be covered include:
•    Introduction to Sign Language Linguistics
•    The importance of studying African sign languages
•    Fieldwork methods in signed language research
•    Lexical variation in signed language
•    Bilingualism (or Multilingualism) in Signing Communities
•    Developing a dataset for sign language dictionary
•    Sign language literature
•    Academic writing skills
•    ELAN _Transcription and annotation method and tool
•    Computational tools for supporting sign language research
•    Sign language technology for applied purposes: apps, dictionaries, chatbots
•    How to train sign language interpreters: syllabus, teaching, homework & test
•    Other short courses 
o    Introduction to International Sign
o    Adamorobe Sign Language
o    Ghanaian Sign Language
