<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><FONT face="Times New Roman">The graduate students in Linguistics at <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Gallaudet</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>University</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> invite current graduate students to participate in an all-student conference.<SPAN class=p-match1> SignWISE has been initiated with the goal of developing a community among graduate students interested in the area of American Sign Language Linguistics. In keeping with this aim, we hope to create an environment to allow for dialogue about research that graduate students around the country are conducting on ASL. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN class=p-match1>We will provide all interested participants with the same data to be used for their analysis. </SPAN>The topic for analysis is open: discourse issues, mental space blends, role shifting, gestures, phonology, syntax. We envision participants giving 10-15 minute presentations followed by 15-20 minute roundtable discussions about each presentation.<SPAN class=p-match1><SPAN style="COLOR: black"> </SPAN></SPAN><TT><SPAN style="COLOR: black; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt">There will also be a forum for discussion of theory and methods, as well as time for collaborative work.</SPAN></TT></FONT><o:p></o:p></P>
