she was talking to people in front of the group. She was, however, a
regular member of the community, married etc. -- her stuttering was not severe
enough to interfere with general acceptance. She did not appear to have CP
or other physiological - movement stutters, only when she signed.</FONT></DIV>

who stuttered severely in spoken English but signed without problems and so,
hung out with the Deaf students at CSUN.</FONT></DIV>

color=#000000 size=+0>My contribution to this is only an observation. I once
had a student, about 15-18 years old (he was my student for two or three
years) who definitely stuttered in his signing. He did have a CP problem on
top of his deafness, but to me it seemed as if the stuttering was not due to
the CP. He even stuttered while writing on his computer - first syllable
twice, or the whole word repeated. In signing, he started, and then started
over, before the sign or the utterance was completed. - This seemed to cause
him some trouble in communication with other deaf students. I have mentioned
this observation to colleagues who are working with stuttering and speech
impediment, and they have a hard time believing that my observation could be
correct. But as I said, he was my student for at least two years, and this was
