The workshop will be held at the University of Central Lancashire,<br>Preston, UK and aims at discussing the use of e-learning and distance<br>education through sign language in an international context. Examples of<br>issues covered in the workshop include:<br><br>- Fragmentation of deaf communities in industrialised countries: How<br>can we form e-communities of learners using the sign language medium?<br>- Shortage of sign language using teachers in developing countries: How<br>can sign language users be empowered to become peer educators?<br>- Demands for individualised flexible learning combining class contact<br>and self-study: What combination of face-to-face contact and distance<br>learning is workable for sign language users?<br><br>We will look at these questions using evidence from India, Turkey,<br>Brazil, Japan, and European countries. <br><br>WE WILL USE A COLLABORATIVE WORKSHOP FORMAT, SO THIS IS NOT A CALL
