The Sign Language Linguistics is considered a new field for the Arab. The purpose of having a theme on Sign Language Linguistics is to spread the information and the latest findings in sign languages researches. As well as discussing about American Sign Language and British Sign Language, though these two countries share the same spoken languages, but they have different signed langauges. We would be also happy to know about any similar situation in Europe.

Many Arab people do not have any information about this field. We want to atract as many sign language linguists as possible to spread the information. Hearing people are always comparing signed languages with spoken languages. They say since the Arab countries use ONE spoken language, then the Arab Deaf should use ONE signed language!

Even those individuals who support using the local sign language, they think it is approperiate to borrow signs from a foreign country since the Deaf don't have a sign for a specified word. They don't realize that sign language developes naturally by the community who uses it exactly like any spoken language. In all signed languages there are no signs for each word. Instead the Deaf fingerspell those words which don't have a sign, but do not take a foreign sign!
