I've used samples from this website (<a href="http://www.hei.org/research/aip/audiodemos.htm">http://www.hei.org/research/aip/audiodemos.htm</a>) for class room demonstrations. It is also the first result if you google the phrase "cochlear implant demo". I am unsure of the copyright status of the audio clips, but you could always contact the organization for permission.<div><br></div><div>---<br><div> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; text-indent: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; text-transform: none; orphans: 2; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; ">Jonathan Udoff<div><div>Graduate Research Assistant</div><div>Laboratory for Language & Cognitive Neuroscience</div><div>San Diego State University Research Foundation</div><div>6495 Alvarado Road, Suite #200</div><div>San Diego, CA 92120</div></div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"></span></span><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"> </div><br><div><div>On Dec 1, 2008, at 12:34 PM, Grushkin, Donald A wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Do a Google search under "hearing simulations" (maybe add 'CI' or 'severe-profound deafness' as extra search strings).<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>I found one website that had a simulation of CIs with 2, 4, 8 and 16 channels that I use for one of my classes.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Not sure if this site will serve your purposes, but maybe you can find some others that will. <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">--Don Grushkin</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">________________________________________</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">From: <a href="mailto:slling-l-bounces@majordomo.valenciacc.edu">slling-l-bounces@majordomo.valenciacc.edu</a> [<a href="mailto:slling-l-bounces@majordomo.valenciacc.edu">slling-l-bounces@majordomo.valenciacc.edu</a>] On Behalf Of Gerard Meijssen [<a href="mailto:gerard.meijssen@gmail.com">gerard.meijssen@gmail.com</a>]</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Sent: Monday, December 01, 2008 11:06 AM</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">To: A list for linguists interested in signed languages</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Subject: [SLLING-L] Cochlear implant</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Hoi,</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">I have been in a number of discussions about deafness, signing and SignWriting. Quite often, the Cochlear implant is mentioned as this brilliant thing that makes deafness go away. My understanding is that while it provides an amazing difference, in essence it is still a crutch. Now my discussions are between hearing people. What I would love to have is a few sound files that give an approximation of what a Cochlear implant does for a deaf person.. I would like to have three sound files, one of a person speaking English in a quiet background, the other of a person speaking English in a noisy background (no music, just people talking) and the last a sound file with 30 seconds of music followed by 30 seconds of the same fragment as it was recorded.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">I would be surprised if such sound files do not exist ..
