Answer: SignWriting is used in 27 countries, and each country and group
handles their use of SignWriting differently...SignWriting is not a
school, or even a theory - it is simply the written form for hundreds
of sign languages - just like the alphabet in English can also be used
to write French and German, in the same way the SignWriting symbols can
be used to write French Sign Language or German Sign Language, as well
as ASL...

So I guess your question is specific to the USA? Or is it specific to
our "SignWriting Literacy Project"? which is a project my little
non-profit organization started a few years ago...SignWriting itself
already was in full use around the world at that time, but in 1998 I
started a donation program of materials to schools...but only a handful
of schools got donations...

So each teacher and each school system handles the parents differently
- The biggest use of SignWriting for young Deaf children, here in the
US, is in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I know they have been very caring
and dedicated to helping the parents learn to read SignWriting...

And certainly, if any parent asked me to send them materials for their
Deaf child, I would do it, since I want to help as much as I can...So I
hope that all parents of deaf children will feel free to write to me,
just as you have!

Val ;-)
