Dear SW-List and Valerie,

Stefan,
I really enjoyed to read a German sneeze!

In your discussion over the last few days you also answered one question
that I wanted to post some time in the next few days, namely how to write
stuff below the hip-line. In Filippino Sign Language we have a sign for
"dog" that first slaps the thigh and then you snap your fingers. I will try
to write it now and attach it to this e-mail. Please, give me feed back if
you can understand it. Thanks!

Nana

Hi Valerie and friends,

well facial expressions is one of my favorite subjects ;-)) since I put a
lot of energy in developing and creating lots of materials -

Well - you ask

"Have you standardized any of the facial expressions used in German Sign
Language (DGS) that are not related
specifically to speech?"

These "Mundbilder" are related to mouth movements that indicate voiceless
articulation movements.

But the other facial expressions are used as they are defined by YOU - So
there is nothing special that should be bound to any spoken language,
culture, religion ----

Nevertheless it is fun to add more and more facial expressions to pantomimic
or true DEAF storytelling Signing ...

What can you observe if somebody "niest" in Germany we say kind of
"hatschi" - ha I sat down to write this in GebaerdenSchrift

"inhaling, head up, mouth open - then head moving down, and -blow air out
..... (hopefully handkerchief at hand, if not at least lift your hand ... )
;-))

As soon as I see Ingvilds spellings I will comment ...

Stefan ;-)

Dear SW List, Stefan and Ingvild!
Oh. I agree absolutely. Have you standardized any of the facial
expressions used in German Sign Language (DGS) that are not related
specifically to speech?

And while we are on the subject of facial expressions, Ingvild Roald
asked me how to write a facial expression that is connected to
Norwegian Sign Language, but not speech, that makes a P sound, with air
coming out...so perhaps we can discuss that too...there are several
possibilities...do you have some of those easily available, on your
TrueType fonts, Stefan?...

Val ;-)
