AW: Flying Bird

Hi Sandy -

well honestly it does not matter who did what ... the interesting point to
me in this case is that we are interested to learn from Valerie how to
transcribe any given hand shape in the context of any given movement -

Years ago we had a wonderful experience trying to transcribe video from
Japanese signing ...

Now it is almost the same - We can try to learn to write a performance that
could be changed in different ways -
The result will be to sharpen the eye and the knowledge about "how to write
..... "

(I had to smile about this "it's on the opposite side of the hand from the
listener." - as I listen to the one- handed clapping...)

Bye

Stefan ;-)

I know what you mean - there's only one wing and besides, it's hard to see
because it's on the opposite side of the hand from the listener.

All the same, it was immediately clear to me when Caroline signed it. I
suppose that as long as you can see a bit of the thumb, you're mind knows
what the whole hand is doing and "gets the picture".

Yes, but I think what I'll do is get Caroline to sign it and take photos of
her - if she doesn't mind! This way we would all see what I saw, and not
just my interpretation of it. Give me a week or so and I'll get back to you!

As I said in an earlier mail, parhaps it's poetic or humorous sign-play
rather than "proper" BSL, but we do want to be able to write poetry and
jokes, don't we?

Sandy
